Born and raised in New Jersey, Icerlene’s life has been deeply influenced by her strong faith and her love for family. She has been married to her husband, Dan, for 35 years and is thee mother of two sons, Roniss and Dajahi. Their unwavering encouragement and support have been another source of strength as she boldly opens her heart and experiences to inspire others.

Icerlene’s journey has been defined by her unwavering commitment to embracing her many roles over the years — as an author, minister, retired government worker, and designer of handcrafted jewelry and clothing. Through each chapter of her life, she has continued to pursue her creative passions and faith-driven purpose with determination and grace. Her profound personal experiences, including officiating her oldest son’s wedding in the Dominican Republic from her wheelchair, exemplify how faith, determination, and love can overcome even the most formidable challenges.

In addition to her artistic endeavors, Icerlene has been a dedicated advocate for disability rights. She joined countless others in the fight for the passage of the ADA and FMLA—legislation she believed would protect workers like her who had been injured on the job. Although the fight was long and the outcomes uncertain, her advocacy empowered her to stand up to workplace injustice and face the future with less fear. Icerlene also lent her voice and pen to efforts that contributed to the passage of the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act, supporting patients in need of alternative treatments for chronic illnesses like hers.

Icerlene’s love for storytelling, music, and chess reflects the rich inner world that sustains her through the ups and downs of living with Multiple Sclerosis.
